Final Paragraph

This semester has been a lot of fun. I feel like I've definitely improved as an artist; I know the basics of animation now, and how to use programs like photoshop and painter 12 more easily. One of my favorite things to do was the portraits, because of how much freedom was allowed -I really like how mine turned out as well. The animations were pretty fun to do too; figuring how to match the audio just right with the animation was time consuming but satisfying. The T-Shirt was one of my least favorite things to do, because I had trouble trying to think of a design that would fall within the guidelines of any of the contests going on. Although I did enjoy creating the tiny-pocket-animals designs.
Overall, I've really enjoyed this class.

Rotoscope Music Video

This is the rotoscoped music video. I had a lot of fun making this and matching up the animation with the music (the music is not mine, by the way). I learned a lot about how to use Final Cut and how to animate things and create a scrolling background for the animation. Matching up the animation with the music was probably my favorite part, because when I got it just right it was really satisfying.

Vectors

Here are some vectors I made of the lovely Mister Andrew Scott, Benedict Cumberbatch, and Mark Gatiss. And then there is an eye that I hand-drew. We learned how to make the original picture into a black and white design of it, then how to vector it from there so it can be stretched out very large or very small and still keep its smooth form. I really like how the vectors look because it's a simplified yet interesting way of creating a design. I like the smoothness of the vectors as well. I was trying to achieve a good vector where the actors were still recognizable.

T-Shirt Design

For the T-Shirt, the contest I designed for was the "Vote Bright" contest. Although I didn't submit it into the contest, I put it up for critiques... which it unfortunately got none of. I made all of the shirts using photoshop, and we sort of had free reign on whatever art style we wanted to use. I definitely struggled with coming up with a design that I liked for one of the contests. I enjoyed making the pocket designs a lot more.

Afterwards, I designed two more t-shirts just for fun.

They're supposed to look as if a tiny animal is popping out of a pocket on a shirt.

Type Tutorial

The type tutorial was interesting, but rather difficult for me. We learned how to wrap text around a certain object in photoshop, as well as warping the text -although I was able to complete it, it wasn't without difficulty. Overall, I'm pretty pleased with it.

Dabbling with Water-Colors

I played around a little bit with the water-color tools in Painter 12, and ended up with a few Homestuck characters.

This was kind of a bonus thing, because I don't think it was actually an assignment? But I really liked using the watercolor technique, and I love how it turned out -again, Painter 12 is really fun to work with. I don't think I actually had that many difficulties with it, overall. 

Portraits!

Here is the Benedict portrait that I did based off of a picture -I can't decide which version I prefer, so they're both here.

 Here is a pop-art-esque portrait based off a picture of Asa Butterfield.

Both were done in Painter 12. I really, really like how they both turned out -at first, I was very skeptical  of how well I would do on this project. Provided with a source image, though, I had a field day with it and really enjoyed creating these. I liked using Painter 12, because it had creative brushes and was overall pleasant to work with. This style of art consists of a lot of layering and patterns which work together to create an organized madness.
